Indio , Ca – Nov, 2015

We loaded up on Friday morning and made the 3 hour drive out to Indio for our first KCBS full competition. Got unloaded and set up just before dark and off we went to our first cooks meeting. Were welcomed as a rookie team and met a few other competitors. We were placed in the back corner but at least the ground was level and grassy. Got to meet our first actual BBQ Neighbor, Jim Young from Big Red BBQ. It was a good thing too as he had brought some huge propane heaters. Turns out it’s CAF in the desert in November. Due to nerves, beer and cold we got about an hours sleep but still managed to hit all our turn ins. Thankfully we actually had a plan, a timeline and did a little practice beforehand so we did not end up DAL. Note to self – reclining beach chairs are not optimal for sleeping.
