Newport Beach, Ca – June, 2016
Wow, comp #6 already? Seems like we are just starting this crazy trip. Lucky for us Newport is only a very short drive for most of the team. It’s also held in the parking lot of the picnic/beach area of the back bay. Couldn’t ask for a better location for a comp. We literally had 40 feet of pavement up against the beachfront as our site. I brought the tent trailer as we planned to stay Saturday night as well. Our spot was between Lady of Q and Smokin’ Money so we were in a nice quiet area for sure. Conditions were identical to our practice cooks as Scott and I both live by the beach. We had 4 solid turn ins and walked in both chicken and pork for a 10th place overall finish. Added another 55 points to the ROY chase. Next stop Del Mar. Shuji went all out once again on Saturday night and we feasted on Opah and giant prawns.
